France participate in the world youth international basketball tournament in Bangkok
The draw for the
FIBA U19 world championship youth international basketball tournament for women was held in Bangkok on Thursday, 26th February 2009.
This tournament is open to all players born on or after 1st January 1990.
France qualified for the championship after finishing fourth during the 2008 edition of the FIBA Europe U18 Women European Championship Division A.
The USA will be starting their defence of their title on 23rd July 2009. They meet Spain. Furthermore in their Group D will be Mali and China.
France have been drawn in Group A and will face Argentina, Australia and Korea.
There are four groups in total and the top three teams of each group will qualify for the second round.
On the other hand the bottom teams will play in the 13th to 16th place classification round.
The other 12 remaining teams will be split into two groups, E and F with the top four teams of each group qualifying for the quarter-finals.
Afterwards it will be a knock-out competition with the finals taking place on 2nd August 2009.
The preliminary groups are as follows:
Group A : Argentina, Australia, France and Korea
Group B: Brazil, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Thailand
Group C: Canada, Japan, Russia and Tunisia
Group D: P.R. of China, Mali, Spain and USA
