Making an impact while playing basketball

Spanish major and Communication minor at the Liberal Arts institution of Davidson College, Katrin Chiemeka has always been looking to express herself on the basketball court.

After injury and a new coach, her comeback into the game was not easy, especially as she was used as an impact guard player.

Katrin did not only have to learn the US college way of playing basketball but also how to become jack of all trades while on the court: recycling the ball for second-chance opportunities by winning the hustle plays, motivating her Wildcat team mates to fight for the loose balls and by having an eye for offensive rebounds.

Her court vision, relentless efforts on both ends of the floor, by also being Davidson's main defender according to ESPN game analyst Robin Muller, and her willingness to keep control of the situation by doing all the little things that do not necessarily show up on the stats sheet helped her team excel.

Despite minor adversities in her junior and senior year, Katrin always bounced back and due to her initiative and communication skills, she became a key factor for the women Wildcats basketball team's quest to bigger accomplishment.

Her positive attitude and unselfish play not only earned her a spot as a starter in the last two years of her college career, but also made her team improve with the women's program’s first back to back 20 + win seasons to be ranked in the top 80.

As such, in 2012, Katrin helped the Wildcats to win the SoCon conference title and in 2013, she was a key component of the team to get the first post-season win in the women's basketball program of Davidson.
