NF1 round 12 - New Coach for Nice Cavigal Olympic Odile Santaniello
Nice Cavigal Olympic were the pre-season favourites to take this NF1 championship and after winning the first six games of the season everything appeared to be okay at the club. They then went on to lose five matches and the final result was that the head coach Eugène Prybella decided with the club’s president to end his contract with immediate effect. Last weekend Nice travelled to Pleyber-Christ and won (82-52) with 33 points coming from Silvana Mirvic, including an impressive 8-of-8 from the land of many. After their victory Nice officially unveiled their new coach: Odile Santaniello who was a former French international and won many honours domestically as well as internationally with Bourges in the Euroleague. Furthermore she was the assistant coach at Aix-en-Provence between 2003 and 2005.
After 12 weeks of action three teams are setting the pace in NF1 and after last weekend‘s results are now two games clear off the chasing pack: Basket Landes, Charleville Mézières and Nantes Rezé Basket who have identical records 10-2 and won last weekend’s matches. Charleville had a comfortable 30-point victory over Voiron while Basket Landes had to fight hard to overcome the hosts Limoges. The last of the trio, Rèze Basket, won an important match against a serious play-off contender Dunkerque who are currently fourth: 78-69.
Racing Club Strasbourg surprisingly lost their 12th match against Roche-sur-Yon (Roche Vendée), a result that slightly dented Abdel Loucif’s play-off ambitions. This victory moves Roche out of the relegation zone. Also Lyon leave the bottom of the table as they downed the CFBB (73-53) with 22 points coming from the Slovakian international Lucia Laskova. For Lyon’s coach Julie Le Bris this win is a relief and should hopefully take some pressure off her. Virgine Brémond for Armentières led the scoring with 17 points as her team surprised Rennes with a 72-59 victory. Lot-et-Garonne had a routine victory over SMUC Marseille who are now with Pleyber-Christ at the bottom of the table after NF1 round 12.
