LFB split into two
with seven games to play

With the top five winning in LFB round 19, it is very unlikely that the teams below them can finish above them by the end of the regular season.

Bourges Basket, Lattes-Montpellier and Villeneuve d'Ascq have all secured their tickets for the LFB Championship play-off series while Basket Landes and Lyon are battling for the fourth place.

Elsewhere the remaining teams are involved in two battles: to take part in the LFB Challenge Round qualification and against relegation.

Fighting for 4th place Basket Landes has the edge over Lyon after seeing off Nantes Rezé (67-57) in an untidy game. Neither team hit more than 35% of their shots from open play as defense was the order of the day. Basket Landes took more risks and fired off 18 more shots than their opponents.

Lyon on the other hand were more clinical in taking down Angers (95-77). Emilja Podrug was back to her best with 23 points for the victors.

However Lyon must win at least two more games than Basket Landes from the remaining games to finish fourth.

Nantes Rezé stay in 7th place while Angers drop a position to 11th place.

LFB Challenge Round contest

Tarbes 2013 LFB Challenge Round winners

This is the last season that the LFB Challenge Round will be played and the contest to qualify gets interesting.

With one place going to either Basket Landes and Lyon, there are only three games separating the teams placed from 6th - 13th place.

Tarbes, winners of the Challenge round competition in 2013 have more or less condemned Cavigal Nice to relegation after beating them on their own court (71-62). Tarbes' victory keeps them out of the direct relegation fight.

Charleville-Mézières who are currently in sixth place continue to struggle. They lost to Villeneuve d'Ascq (68-80). Lenae Williams continued from where she left off against Dynamo Moscow in the EuroCup Womem, hitting 7-from-9 shots to lead the scoring with 18 points.

However it was former Charleville-Mézières player Djéné Diawara who did most of the damage to finish with 14 points and 9 rebounds.

The performane of Ambrosia Anderson (21 points), the player of the match, was not enough for her side to take the win.

Anaël Lardy and Pauline Krawczyk

The most exciting game of the weekend saw Arras end their losing streak with a 1-point victory against Toulouse (57-56).

Toulouse were one second away from winning when Naignouma Coulibaly slashed to the basket and was fouled. She is not a steady free-throw scorer. But on this occasion she hit both her shots and Arras celebrated as if they won the championship.

Arras are still in 13th place. Yet with Mondeville and Angers also losing they still have a good chance of beating the drop.

Hainaut Basket who are in the last Challenge Round position at the moment were blown away by Lattes-Montpellier (89-64).

The contest was over by the end of the first quarter with Lattes-Montpellier ahead (31-14). Belarus international Katsiaryna Snytsina played her first game for Montpellier and helped herself to 13 points.

Tango Bourges Basket's generosity against Mondeville lasted just ten minutes. Trailing (18-21) at the end of the first quarter, for the remaining 30 minutes Mondeville only scored 27 points while Bourges helped themselves to 78 points (96-48).

Arras fans

Toulouse s'incline d'1 point à Arras (56-57).

Tango Bourges Basket bat logiquement Mondeville (96-48).
