Géraldine Robert

Géraldine Robert from Lattes Montpellier is the winner of our award for the LFB player of the month for October 2012. She just edged out two team-mates Gaëlle Skrela (September player of the month) and Fatimatou Sacko.

As the old saying goes, stats don't lie: in October Robert averaged in the LFB just over 14 points per match and picked up just over 7 rebounds per game. However the statistics do not cover hustle plays and points won of lost causes.

Robert is as precious as a diamond when it comes to create opportunities for her side to get the ball back. She may not have the best technique and is known for missing the unmissable but she has an incredible ability to turn things around out of nothing.

In the EuroCup Women her two games have seen her average 15.5 points. But what the supporters remember is the battle that won her two free throws that got them into overtime against BC Chevakata.

Géraldine Robert has only played four seasons in the LFB but she has left a big impression on players and supporters from around the league.

The Robert magic has rubbed off onto to players like Tracy Albicy, Amel Bouderra, Bintou Dieme, Princesse Goubo and Céline Schmitt-Sendner.

However the best compliment came from a fan of Villeneuve d'Ascq who told us "Gégé never left our club and returned to support the team when she could, so when she came playing for Montpellier we still had to applaud her performance in beating our team."

Outside of playing professional basketball Robert runs a programme callled YEMALY which she promotes as follows "not only a Foundation, a chance for everyone to give back". One of the major functions of her programme is a summer basketball camp in Gabon organised by her since 2010.

La Gégé mania

Quoique Géraldine Robert a joué que quatre saisons dans la Ligue Féminine de BasketBall pendant sa carrière professionnelle, on se souvient toujours d'elle avec son énergie, son envie de gagner et de se battre jusqu'au dernier moment.

Pour Octobre 2012, elle a été élu en tant que meilleure joueuse du mois dans la LFB par nos lecteurs, emportant cette victoire contre Gaëlle Skrela, notre meilleure joueuse pour Septembre, et Fatimatou Sacko.

Pas seulement ses 14 points et 7 rebonds en moyenne par match en LFB et ses 15,5 points en moyenne dans la compétition EuroCoupe contribuent aux victoires de sa nouvelle équipe Lattes Montpellier, le seul leader après sept journées en saison régulière, mais ce sont son attitude positive et son esprit d'équipe qui lui valent son succès auprès des fans du basket féminin.

Pourtant il ne faut pas oublier son engagement avec son association YEMALY, dont elle est la présidente, en venant en aide aux enfants à Gabon par la promotion de la pratique du basketball.
