LFB news: Bourges Basket qualify for championship play-off
Jessica Davenport was the LFB news headline from Challes-les-Eaux this week after her DNP last week. There has been no official communiqué from the club about the situation but it appears that her time at the club is over.
Challes started well against Calais and led (16-8) after the first period. After that point the match became complicated for Challes as Martina Luptakova and Stéphanie Dubois were in foul problems.
Both players were to foul out during the game. As a result of this situation Claire Vanhoutreve was given the chance to play.
Challes was leading (46-37) going into the final period. They managed to hold off the late flourish from Calais to win (57-54).
Lattes Montpellier completely dominated Mourenx (28-13) in the first period of the game and had a maximum lead (43-21) before allowing Mourenx to come back into the game. Montpellier went into the interval leading (45-31). The two sides matched each other basket for basket in the second half. Yet Montpellier won (67-53).
Elodie Bertal top scored for Montpellier 14 points. Gunta Basko and Grace Daley scored 13 points apiece. Ana Lelas had 19 points for Mourenx.
USVO have never had it easy playing Saint Amand. This match was no different. USVO had to withstand a final period comeback from their guests to win (62-58). Nicole Ohlde (left) led the scoring for USVO with 16 points. Laurie Koehn scored 11 points which included 9 points from beyond the arc. Sabrina Reghaïssia also had 11 points while Francesca Zara scored 11 points and had 3 assists.
Tamara Moore led the scoring for Saint Amand with 14 points.
Villeneuve improved their chance of making the play-off with an emphatic victory against Mondeville (85-60). Yet Villeneuve’s injury woes continue: Jucirama Dantas had her operation this week and is not expected back until April.
Isabelle Yacoubou gave her best performance since her return and scored 20 points and took 11 rebounds. But this was not enough for Tarbes as they fell (56-46) to Clermont-Ferrand.
Aix-en-Provence and ASPTT entertain on LFB TV
This was an interesting match which you will be able to watch on demand from Sunday evening.
It was an important game for the two teams as they are both situated at the wrong end of the table. Aix-en-Provence went on to win the match (78-69).
Anastasia Kostaki led the scoring with 21 points with K. B. Sharp scoring 18 points (all in the second half). Carla Thomas (in picture) scored 22 points for Arras.
LFB news from Prado as Bourges down Reims
The last team that could mathematically stop Bourges Basket from making the championship play-off was their opponents Saint Jacques Sport Reims.
The opening few minutes were fast and furious with Anne-Marie Parau and Zuzanna Klimesova doing the majority of the scoring for Reims and they matched their hosts (11-11).
Florence Lepron from Bourges hit 6 consecutive points as they attempted to subdue their opponents by opening up a 7-point lead (21-14). Reims battled and managed to reduce their deficit by the end of the first period (19-21).
Bourges quickly went to work in the second period, alternating inside and outside and putting 10 points between themselves and Reims (29-19). Ana Cata-Chitiga (left) added to Reims woes with some nice work in the paint as they went into the interval leading (42-33).
Bourges controlled the third quarter and extended their advantage after a trey from Céline Dumerc (49-36). Bourges’ suffocating defence succeeded in keeping Klimesova in check as they went into the final period with a commanding lead (58-41).
Reims battled away the best they could but were unable to match the offensive armoury of their opponents. Bourges went on to win (80-60).
Belinda Snell’s 27 ½ minutes were the most playtime for any players from Bourges to have. She was the top scorer with 13 points. Dumerc and Sonja Petrovic scored 12 and 11 points respectively.
Klimesova led the scoring for Reims with 16 points while Parau scored 11 points and had 5 assists. Mia Fisher was the other player in double digits with 12 points.
