LFB Championship play-off final goes to Bourges Basket
Bourges Basket's victory concluded the LFB Championship play-off final for 2007-2008. 12 consecutive points from Sonja Petrovic between the second and third period finally put Bourges Basket in control as they went on to claim their eighth title as French Champions.
In a match, in which defence was the order of the day, Bourges Basket beat Lattes Montpellier (52-45) to sweep the best of three series 2:0.
Montpellier made the better start in the game and had the lead (13-9) after the first quarter. They continued to dominate the match offensively. With in particular Gaelle Skréla and Elodie Bertal Montpellier increased their advantage (16-11).
Bourges reverted to three-point shooting with Belinda Snell and Céline Dumerc scoring. But Grace Daley hit one back for Montpellier to go into the interval leading (29-23).
Montpellier's dominance continued as they stretched their advantage during the first two minutes of the third period (34-25). However within 60 seconds Bourges scored 8 unanswered points to reduce their deficit to a single point.
Petrovic then took over the offensive show and scored the last 8 points for her side in the third quarter as Bourges went into the lead (41-39) before entering the final period.
Four more points by Petrovic at the start of the fourth quarter gave Bourges their largest lead (45-39) until the end. Montpellier never looked like they would get the lead back. By the time Petrovic struck again followed by a free-throw from Dumerc it was all over for the opponents.
Petrovic led the scoring with 16 points. She also took 7 rebounds in only 22 minutes of play.
