Elodie Bertal © womensbasketball-in-france.com Elodie Bertal (27 years) from LFB club Villeneuve d'Ascq is not playing basketball this season. She reported for pre-season training and played in the first training game.

However on 2 September it was officially announced that she was expecting a baby and would have to stop playing.

Bertal was in the final year of her three-year contract with Villeneuve d'Ascq. She missed a big part of last season after hurting her knee and managed just to play in 14 games during the Ligue Féminine de Basket season.

Before joining Villeneuve d'Ascq in 2009 she played professionally for Lattes Montpellier (2005-2009), Bourges Basket (2004-2005) and USV0 (2002-2004).

Prior to becoming a professional she attended the French National Basketball academy at INSEP (CFBB).

Bertal won two French championships, one EuroLeague Women title and a French Cup medal while playing for USVO.

Bertal has played for the senior women French team 19 times with the last appearance in 2009.

She was also an active youth international and picked up the U16 European Championship bronze medal in 1999 and a silver medal at the U18 European Championship in 2002.

She was also a member of the U21 team that won bronze at the 2003 U21 FIBA World Championship Women.

Her elder sister, Géraldine Bertal, who is currently playing for Lyon BF, also took time off to have a baby in 2008.
