Disastrous weekend for playing
at home in the LFB

At times having home court advantage in the LFB does not help. On Saturday night all six matches of round 8 went to the visiting teams.

Lattes Montpellier's victory put them just one win away from matching their 2011-12 start to the season of nine consecutive wins. At the bottom Villeneuve d'Ascq are having their worst start in LFB history.

In 2011-12 Charleville-Mézières performed wonders at home in front of the cameras of Ardennes TV. Unfortunately this season they have not been able to repeat this performance.

Part of the club's problems is the refusal of the FFBB and LFB to clear Sheana Mosch to play. She is a major piece of the Flammes Carolo jigzaw puzzle and without her the team is short of fire power.

Charleville-Mézières hosted Perpignan Basket and came out second best (49-62) despite some spectacular moments from Amel Bouderra (15 points) and Djéné Diawara (12 points).

For Perpignan Abby Bishop (7 points) had an off day in terms of shooting with just 2-from-12. But it did not matter because Angie Bjorklund and Héléna Ciak found their scoring touch with 14 and 18 points respectively.

Perpignan's bench is so deep that they were able to wear down their opponents by just rotating players at will all through the game.

Edwige Lawson-Wade (4 assists) is on fire at the moment. By the look of things she must be eating a lot of spinach because a lot of her three-point shots came from down-town. She fired in 26 points which included 15 points (5-of-7) from beyond the arc as Lattes Montpellier beat Lyon (81-64).

The one funny moment in the match occurred at the half-time buzzer when Lawson-Wade's three-point attempt failed with the ball stuck between the backboard and the rim.

The match itself was close for the first 17 minutes (39-39) with Mistie Mims (21 points) keeping Lyon in the game.

Montpellier then stepped up the game to take the lead for good before the end of the first half. Géraldine Robert was the only other player to reach double digits in this game with 18 points for Montpellier.

Bourges Basket somehow managed to get themselves out of jail to beat Basket Landes (62-60). Nwal-Endéne Miyem put Bourges in front for good with just 21 seconds left to play.

It was tough luck for Basket Landes as they were in front for 36 of the 40 minutes played in the game.

Bourges did not shoot well with just 30% success from the field. Yet the 15 points they scored off Basket Landes's turnovers proved to be crucial in the end. Céline Dumerc and Frida Eldebrink scored 11 points each for Bourges.

Basket Landes were led by Valériane Ayayi who scored 14 points in a perfect shooting day from the floor (5-from-5) and 100% from the charity stripes. Anaïs Le Gluher-Cano, Carmen Guzman and Jennifer Humphrey were close behind with 13, 11 and 10 points respectively.

Toulouse Métropole are doing well at the moment. They beat Aix-en-Provence (66-54) for their fifth victory of the season. Adrijana Knezevic (in picture) led the way with 22 points while the American duo of Carrem Cay and Demetress Adams combined for 26 points.

It was not a game for three-point shooting with the two teams combining for 2-of-23.

USO Mondeville kept their form from the EuroLeague Women competition to beat Villeneuve d'Ascq (87-61).

The injury list of Villeneuve d'Ascq is not getting shorter despite the return of Meesseman and Sandra Pirsic. It is the turn of Jennifer Digbeu and Amélie Pochet to be attended to.

The first quarter was an offensive festival by both teams with Mondeville getting out on top (24-20). The second quarter was less dynamic. However Mondeville started to take control of the game and went into the locker room further ahead (46-37).

Despite the efforts of Emma Meessemann (14 points) Villeneuve d'Ascq failed to take off during the second half of the match leaving the way open for their guests.

Amanda Lassiter was the leading scorer with 21 points while Laëtitia Kamba chipped in 16 points.

For Arras the loss of Krissy Bade - injured during the EuroLeague Women round 3 match - for at least two weeks is a big blow because the roster is not very deep.

Arras never got going against Tarbes. Their insistence in shooting from beyond the arc did not help because they succeeded just once in 22 attempts.

Tarbes took full advantage and won comfortably (68-47).

Kim Smith on her début for Tarbes finished with 10 points while Paoline Salagnac led the way with 16 points.

Somebody in Nantes-Rezé must have had a crystal ball in foreseeing the fate of the home teams this weekend. Although Nantes-Rezé were the hosts the Sunday LFB match was played in their other venue (Gymnase Arthur Dugast).

Nantes-Rezé ran out winners against Hainaut Basket (79-70) with Bernadette N'Goyisa (in picture) top scoring with 16 points.

The match was intense and had 21 lead changes, Hainaut Basket's downfall was the high number of turnovers, 21. They shot the ball better than their opponents with all eight players getting on the score sheet.

However Nantes-Rezé's skills on the fast breaks with Caroline Aubert (6 assists), Isis Arrondo (15 points), Sarah Michel (15 points) and the ever present Gunta Baško-Melnbārd (11 points and 4 steals) were just too strong.

Hainaut Basket decided to sign Amanda Jackson until Christmas who should be in action next week. With an extra player in the rotation they hope to improve their position in the LFB which at the moment is not good with just 1 victory.

LFB round 8 results:

Charleville-Mézières 49-62 Perpignan Basket
Villeneuve d'Ascq 61-87 USO Mondeville
Lyon BF 64-81 Lattes Montpellier
Basket Landes 60-62 Bourges Basket
Arras 47-68 Tarbes
Aix-en-Provence 54-66 Toulouse Métropole

Nantes-Rezé 79-70 Hainaut Basket
