The battle to avoid LF2 relegation has started. Aix-en-Provence won in overtime while Charnay moved off the bottom with a double overtime victory against Reims. Elsewhere COB Calais are two victories away from qualifying for the end-of-season final four.
Léon Trégor were able to stay on the tail of COB Calais for the first 20 minutes (28-35) by converting 13-from-19 free throws.
After the break, Calais silenced the home fans with a clinical display of basketball in the paint.
Great Britain international Dominique Allen was unstoppable with 22 points while Tiffany Clarke chipped in 18 points as Calais blew away their hosts 44-19 to win comfortably (79-47).
Calais are a perfect 16-of-16 for the LF2 regular season and eight games clear of the teams in fifth place and just two wins away from booking their ticket for the LF2 final 4.
It has not been an easy season for Géraldine Bertal (above in picture) and her team Charnay. But this weekend her side turned things around by beating Reims on the road in double overtime (86-78).
Charnay took control of the game during the second half until the last 34 seconds of regulation time. Then Reims were able to get the lead back. Laure Belleville (24 points, 6 assists) saved her team from defeat and forced overtime by hitting a couple of free throws (65-65).
Reims once again found themselves in trouble but profited from a missed free throw to force a second overtime with a desperation shot from Pauline Lithard (18 points) (73-73).
Charnay held their nerves during the second overtime to win the match and send Reims into the relegation zone. Elodie Decker and Bertal contributed 19 and 17 points towards the victory. Maud Lesoudard led the way with 19 points for Reims who find themselves back at the bottom with having played one game less than Charnay.
Aix-en-Provence finished the second quarter with a 14-0 run to lead Illkirch-Graffenstaden (41-27) at the break. Aix-en-Provence appeared to be cruising with a 21-point lead with 14 minutes to play (53-32).
The SIG fought back and had the chance to win the game on a And-1 play by Louise Dambach. Her free throw did not drop and the game went into overtime (67-67).
Aix played better in overtime and held on to win (76-73). With this win they move out of the relegation zone. Shenita Landry had one of her best games of the season with 23 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists for the victors.
For the teams currently second and third in the LF2 regular season table, week 17 went well. Roche Vendée beat Le Havre (65-41) while Pau Lacq-Orthez put aside their injury problems to hold off Chartres (73-62).
Limoges remain in 4th place despite losing on the road to Dunkerque Malo (79-83).
In the meantime Perpignan Basket are moving up the table despite the absence of Marie-Frédérique Ayissi whose season might be over. This weekend Perpignan Basket had no problems in beating the CFBB (82-53) with six players in double digits.
Last weekend - while the rest of the LF2 teams were off - Perpignan had beaten Chartres (74-61) with four players in double digits: Pauline Lo (10 rebounds), Fabienne Constant (18 rebounds), Laura Datchy (5 assists), Margaux Oko-Zouzouo with 25, 19, 13 and 11 points respectively whereas Magali Mendy was the top scorer for Chartres with 14 points.
