No FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament in France

France finished third at Eurobasket Women 2011 and are one of 12 teams qualified in the battle for the five tickets remaining for the 2012 London Olympic Basketball Tournament.

The Olympic Qualifying Tournament as referred to as the Additional Qualification Round (AQR) is scheduled to take place from 25 June 2012 - 1 July 2012.

The French Basketball Federation (FFBB) speculated about bidding to host the tournament but after studying the financial requirement, estimated at 1.5 million Euro, they decided to withdraw from the bidding process.

France will host EuroBasket Women 2013 between 15 June - 30 June 2013.

TOURNOI DE QUALIFICATION OLYMPIQUE FEMININ

La Fédération Française de Basket-Ball ne se portera pas candidate à l’organisation du Tournoi de QualificationOlympique féminin.

Après l’étude approfondie du cahier des charges fourni par la Fédération Internationale, la FFBB a décidé, lors de sonBureau Fédéral du 28 octobre, de ne pas poursuivre son projet de candidature au TQO féminin.

Prévu fin juin 2012, ce tournoi permettra de désigner les 5 dernières équipes nationales féminines qualifiées pour lesJeux Olympiques de Londres.

La Fédération française avait exprimé son intérêt pour cet évènement du fait de la présence de l’Equipe de Franceféminine dans ce tournoi et avait demandé à pouvoir étudier le cahier des charges.

Jean-Pierre Siutat, Président de la FFBB : "ce sont des raisons budgétaires qui nous amènent à ne pas donner suite.Je tiens à remercier l’aide et le soutien du Ministère des Sports sur ce dossier qui était prêt à nous accompagner,mais toutes les conditions n’étaient pas réunies étant donné le coût global proche de 1,5 millions d'euros."

Pour rappel l’Equipe de France féminine a été médaillée de bronze au dernier championnat d’Europe en Pologne etdisputera le TQO pour obtenir sa qualification aux JO.La France organisera le prochain Championnat d’Europe des nations du 15 au 30 juin 2013.
