Alina Iagupova has become the eighth player to win the FIBA Europe young player of the year award. The Ukrainian international has been on the youth international scene since the summer of 2009.

She edged out Sweden's Farhiya Abdi and Spain's Queralt Casas while Olivia Epoupa from France came 10th and the 2011 winner Emma Meesseman 6th.
Iagupova participated in two U18 European Championships (2009-2010) and four U20 European Championships (2009-2012), all in division A.
She made the all tournament team in her last three U20 Championships.
She also played for the senior team in 2011 during the EuroBasket Women 2011 Additional Qualification Round (AQR) and again in the summer of 2012 during the EuroBasket 2013 qualification series.
During the 2012 U20 FIBA Europe European Championship for Women, covered by womensbasketball-in-france, Iagupova scored a total of 248 points (27.8 points per game) in 9 games. Her lowest score was 21 points.
She also came up with a triple double in the quarter-final against the Netherlands, where she scored 24 points, dished out 10 assists and pulled down 13 rebounds. However her efforts were in vain as her side lost (63-71) and was eliminated from the title chase.

She explained about her shooting and how much work she had put into it. She said that she did enter a basketball academy when she was younger. She finished the interview up by talking about her team-mates and how they worked from game to game. A presque 21 ans, l'Ukrainienne Alina Iagupova, 1m83, arrière, succède à la Belge Emma Meesseman, 19 ans, 1m92.
Iagupova a donc été désignée Espoir européenne de l'année 2012 par FIBA Europe, les votes se composant des spécialistes de la presse et des internautes. La Suédoise Farhiya Abdi et l'Espagnole Querelt Casas la suivent dans les votes.
Alina Iagupova n'a pas seulement participé à 2 championnats de moins de 18 ans et à 4 championnats de moins de 20 ans depuis 2009 mais aussi aux qualifications pour l'Euro 2013 - pour lequel l'Ukraine s'est qualifié - en mettant 14,1 points et 6,3 rebonds de moyenne.
Les trois dernières fois en U20, Iagupova a été désignée dans le groupe des meilleures cinq joueuses. En 2012 elle avait de moyenne 27,6 points, 10,1 rebonds et 5,3 passes décisives.
