Twenty teams from eleven federations have accepted to play in the 2014 EuroLeague Women (ELW). UMMC Ekaterinburg, the 2013 champions are back to defend their title while Bourges Basket return for a record of 19 appearances.
For the French Basketball Federation, Bourges Basket qualified as French champions while Lattes Montpelllier earned their place by winning the 2013 Coupe de France (French Cup) title.
The third place allocated to France has been forfeited by the Federation because of the financial issues of Lyon BF and Perpignan Basket.
Lattes Montpellier had refused the ELW participation in 2013 and are one of three newcomers this season.
Kayseri Kaski of Turkey and Kibirkstis VICI-IKI from Lithuania are the other teams that had not played in 2013 entering the competition this season.
With France not taking their full allocation as well as the refusal of CSM Targoviste to accept a wild card there are just 20 teams, one down from the 2013 edition.
Unless FIBA Europe changes the rules before the draw, the first phase consists of two groups of seven teams and one group with six teams.
Russia and Turkey have three teams each while the Czech Republic, France, Hungary and Spain are presented by two club each.
The draw for the competition is scheduled for Friday, 5 July, in Munich. The ELW 2013/14 clubs:
