EuroCup Women chaos in the Canaries Islands
Unfortunately the EuroCup Women match between Club de Baloncesto Islas Canarias (Gran Canaria 2014) and Saint Amand Hainaut Basket was not played in the best of spirits due to number of incidents on and off the court.
Before the game even tipped off at 19:00, there was tension in the air. The match was in its ninth minute with the guests leading (14-12) when Amisha Carter went sliding to the floor.
Carter had to leave the game as she had hurt her knee. On resuming the game Corinne Bénintendi (right) refused her players to continue as she complained that the court was not safe.
The officials and the match commissioner agreed for the match to be be suspended and transferred to another venue, 7km down the road. This decision caused confusion in transporting everybody to the new venue.
At the resumption of the game at 20:30, there was yet to happen another incident involving Corinne Bénintendi and a fan. The argument was resolved by ejecting the fan. After a few more discussions the game was played out in a hostile atmosphere with Hainaut winning (78-67).
To make matters worse the Hainaut Basket players celebrated their victory in a way that was not appreciated by the home fans.
However the drama was far from over because both clubs got into an argument about the game tape which was not available at the time.
