Arras notched up the first EuroCup Women victory in the history of the club by beating Dexia Namur (88-62). Olesia Malashenko and Pauline Akonga-N’Simbo had played for Dexia before joining Arras last season. Akonga-N’Simbo led the Arras attack with 24 points, closely followed by Aija Putnina with 22 points. Malashenko and Leilani Mitchell both finished the game with 5 assists. Nantes Rezé huffed and puffed for 25 minutes and then took control to beat Saarlouis Royals (91-71). Mame-Marie Sy-Diop led the scoring with 18 points. But it was the 13 rebounds of Emilija Podrug that gave Nantes the edge. Villeneuve d'Ascq completed the French grand slam with a comfortable victory (82-57) against the Lotto Young Cats. Carla Thomas and Olayinka Sanni had 13 rebounds each and scored 20 and 17 points respectively. Elsewhere on the first day of the round 3 action in the EuroCup Women, the defending champions Sony Athinaikos had a comfortable victory (85-51) against Lupa Promotion Novi Zagreb. Greek international Dimitra Kalentzou (left) was the star of the match with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Marina Kuzina was once again the driving force for Dynamo Moscow with 15 points and 13 rebounds in less than 22 minutes play-time against Petrolina AEK. Dynamo Moscow won (98-40). Gran Canaria dug themselves out of a hole against BBC Sint-Katelijne-Waver with solid defending during the second half. Trailing by 12 points at the interval, they only conceded 17 points during the second half to run out winners (67-60). The other Spanish team in action Mann Filter had an easy night beating Sport Algs Dafundo (87-39). Ruzomberok also had little trouble in beating Olivias Coimbra (71-48).
