Not a good EuroBasket Women 2009 qualification evening for ladies in the LFB
LFB players ended on the losing side in the EuroBasket Women 2009 additional qualification round ties on day 3 of the series with defeats for Croatia and Bulgaria.
Italy crushed Croatia (83-50) and are now clear favourites from Group A to qualify for the final in Latvia.
However it was Croatia that got off to a better start with Ana Lelas currently playing for Bourges Basket to hit a shot from down-town (5-2).
Italy then went on a 16-point run and despite conceding 9 points they led (21-14) by the end of the first period.
Italy went into the locker room leading (40-31) and despite losing Laura Macchi midway through the third period for 5 fouls they went into the final period with a comfortable advantage (56-41).
Croatia put up little resistance in the final period and allowed Italy to blow them away.
Lelas, the only player from the LFB, in this game scored 8 points for Croatia.
Romania require one more victory to stay in Division A
Romania beat Great Britain (75-71) to record their third victory on the road.
Great Britain dominated the first 24 minutes and led (24-17). Romania then went on to score 16 unanswered points to lead (33-24) at the half-way mark.
In an action packed third period Great Britain made up their deficit to lead by a single point (49-48) going into the final period.
In a tense error-prone last quarter Great Britain led (69-64) with just over three minutes to play.
However foul problems that resulted in the elimination of Stefanie Collins and Rosalee Mason and turnovers at bad times finally cost Great Britain as they went on to lose the match.
Mason who is playing in the second division in France with Colomiers managed 23 points for Great Britain but was beaten by Kim Butler who scored 25 points.
For Romania Svetlana Dragusin scored 22 points and was joined in double digits by Simina Mandache and Maria Pascalau with 17 and 16 points each.
