Lattes Montpellier, the holders of the Joë Jaunay title have failed in their bid to defend the trophy with a defeat against Nantes-Rezé. The match did not start well for Lattes Monpellier with Sandra Dijon-Gérardin picking up 2 fouls within the first three minutes of the match. In the meanwhile Nantes raced off to a (12-6) early lead with 7 points coming from Lenae Williams (in picture). Montpellier did battle back to lead briefly before conceding the the first quarter (22-23) struggling to hit anything from the right side of the court. Williams led all scoring with 16 points with 5-of-7 from the field. In the second quarter Nantes went cold and missed their first 10 shots while allowing Montpellier to score 12 unanswered points. Nantes just managed 2 points in the second quarter and went into the locker room trailing (25-37). What Laurent Buffard at half time asked his team to do for the remaining match had its effect: Nantes-Rezé was a different team after the break and hit their guests 15-4 in the first five minutes. With just under four minutes left in the third quarter another long three-ball by Williams put the hosts in front (45-43). They stayed in front till the end of the quarter (51-47). However Montpellier managed to regain the advantage at the start of the final quarter. But once the partnership of Aurélie Bonnan with 2 points and Williams with assists started to work their side were back in front (56-55) with six minutes to play. With just under three minutes to play it was the turn of Sarah Michel to connect from behind the arc to push the advantage into double figures (65-55). Nantes-Rezé went on to win (69-60) and will play in the semi-final of the Coupe de France for the first time. Williams finished the game with 30 points including 5-of-7 from behind the arc. Johanne Gomis scored 13 points while Bonnan dished out 7 assists while scoring 7 points and picking up 15 rebounds. For Lattes Montpellier, Kaayla Chones led the scoring with 12 points. Edwige Lawson-Wade compiled 11 points and 7 assists. Diandra Tchatchouang was the other player in double digits with 10 points. In the other quarter-final which was played very early in the evening (16:00) Cavigal Nice were beaten by Challes-les-Eaux (65-79). For the hosts Merike Anderson went 6-of-8 from the floor and scored 17 points while Aminata Konate added 14 points while claiming 4 assists. As usual these days Mistie Mims and Danielle Page led the scoring for Challes-les-Eaux with 23 and 19 points while Romy Bär and Anäel Lardy both dished out 7 assists.
