Pierre Vincent's decision to leave Bourges Basket made the basketball news headline all over Europe. However the announcement of Valérie Garnier's appointment was almost missed. Garnier is a former French International with 61 games to her name. She won three French Championships before ending her playing career in 1994. She moved from playing basketball to coaching immediately and spent seven seasons (1995-2002) with Carqueiranne in the Amateur leagues (NF2/NF3). She moved to Le Temple-sur-Lot and spent three seasons (2005-2008) with the club in the second division. Temple-sur-Lot disappeared and the sporting rights were bought by Toulouse Métropole Basket. Garnier became the coach of Toulouse Métropole Basket and after a dramatic season (2008-2009) in which the club finished fourth the club was offered a place in the LFB. The reason for the promotion came when Reims and Union Hainaut demoted from the LFB for financial issues. Garnier also served as assistant coach to the French senior women team under Alain Jardel from 2004 until 2006. Her two seasons with Toulouse in the LFB have not been easy with just 9 wins and 45 defeats. Garnier will be assisted by Jérôme Authier who has been at the club for four years. Cathy Melain also returns to the club and will run the centre de formation (basketball academy). The roster for 2011-2012 is as follows: Marielle Amant, Romane Bernies, Kiesha Brown, Christelle Diallo, Jennifer Digbeu, Céline Dumerc, Cathy Joens, Margaux Galliou Loko, Styliani Kaltsidou, Nwal-Endéné Miyem, Emméline Ndongue Return from LFB basketball news to Ligue Féminine de BasketBall index Go to Women Playing Basketball In France Home Page Return to the top of page Picture credits: womensbasketball-in-france.com Date created: 21 May 2011 |
