Matea Vrdoljak heads the basketball news for the wrong reason

Matea VrdoljakBasketball news - Season over for Matea Vrdoljak

Matea Vrdoljak's favourite colour is pink. She was looking forward to a fresh start in France but her season is more or less over with an ACL injury during her team's defeat against Tango Bourges Basket. Arras have already found a replacement, Croatian international Emanuela Salopek.

Elsewhere during the second day of action Villeneuve d'Ascq and Lyon BF failed to recover from their defeats at the Open LFB in Paris.

Lyon fell on the road in overtime to Hainaut Basket (76-78) while Villeneuve were also beaten on the road by Charleville-Mézières (54-62).

Amel Bouderra helped herself to 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the victory for the Flammes Carolo.

For Villeneuve d'Ascq Virginie Bremont injured her shoulder while  Marielle Amant cracked her nose.

Last season Astou Traoré was often in the basketball news for her scoring achievements. This has not changed as she finished with 31 points for Hainaut Basket. The injury to Carine Paul at the Open LFB is more serious and her club signed Canadian international Shona Thorburn as a medical replacement (joker médical).

Julie VanlooBasketball news: Julie Vanloo scored 23 points

In the other games Tango Bourges Basket held off a determined team from Arras (79-71) with a Commonwealth duo of Jo Leedham and Marianne Tolo sharing 27 points. Tarbes made it 2-from-2 with a road victory against Nantes-Rezé (73-70). Angers also fell at home to Basket Landes (60-62).

USO Mondeville were involved in a cliff hanger against Toulouse and just survived (85-81). Julie Vanloo helped herself to 23 points (6-from-12 from beyound the arc) while her team-mate Courtney Hurst had 22 points. With this victory Mondeville are the leaders of the championship after two games.

Once again Olivia Epoupa was firing on all cylinders for Toulouse with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists.

The 2014 LFB champions, Lattes-Montpellier, started their defense of the title with an easy victory over COB Calais (86-54).
