The major surprise of the NF1 round 20 was Voiron winning against the high-flying Basket Landes (59-41). Yet it was only in the final period that the hosts managed to dispose of Basket Landes (18-3). With this victory Voiron are back on level terms with Lyon.
SMUC Marseille completed the double over Lyon with (77-67) and Rennes held their nerves as they overcame Pleyber Christ (77-52).
Last weekend Etoile de Voiron Feminin (above) were the biggest winners from the teams in the bottom four while Lyon were the biggest losers. Both sides are still two games down on Limoges and the hope for survival is definitely not over. Marseille and Pleyber Christ are a further two games behind and now have an uphill task to avoid relegation.
With two third of the season over the championship play-off picture is becoming clearer with five teams fighting for four places.
Racing Club de Strasbourg have only lost three times at home this season. Nantes Rezé walked away with a victory against Strasbourg (62-52) despite their hosts being in control leading by 10 points with 15 minutes remaining in the game. A lack of discipline can be costly and Belinda Mboma will not disagree. She was called for a fourth personal foul which was followed by a technical foul and her game was over. Hence Nantes scored four free-throws and regained the advantage.
In addition Nantes’ Yuliya Andreyeva who was not sure of playing came into action and scored 11 points while Strasbourg ran out of solutions. Nantes are still leading and are four games clear of the team in fifth position. They are looking good for the play-offs.
Charleville remain in second place after an emphatic victory (88-53) against Limoges. Basket Landes despite their defeat remain in third place with exactly the same record as Armentières who beat Nice (80-68). The last team in the hunt is Dunkerque who lie in fifth place after their victory against La Roche (69-64). They are only one game behind the teams in third and fourth place.
Lot-et-Garonne moved further away from the relegation zone with a hard fought victory against the CFBB (62-58).
For Nice and Strasbourg the pre-season play-off ambitions took a big blow in this round while Rennes are almost sure of NF1 basketball for next season.
